The OSU CVHS/Spears School of Business Joint DVM/MBA Program is designed to meet the veterinarian’s need for training in business and management.
- This one-year accelerated program is offered through the OSU Spears School of Business and is open to students admitted to or matriculating in the College of Veterinary Medicine professional program.
- It integrates the knowledge, skills and experiences unique to the veterinary profession with those necessary for a successful career in business and management of animal health-related fields.
- The program is designed for students who do not have an academic background in business and management.
- The 36-credit hour program includes 30 credit hours of MBA core coursework in the fall and spring semesters with six elective MBA hours taken in the summer. Internship credit may also be arranged. The MBA portion of the program may be completed in one year.
- Core classes may be taken in Stillwater and/or Tulsa.
- Graduate tuition rates will be charged for MBA courses.
- Academic regulations governing the MBA portion of the program may be found in the OSU Graduate catalog. Regulations governing the DVM portion of the program are those of the OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.

DVM/MBA CURRICULAR OPTIONS
One of the following options could be used by students entering the DVM/MBA program:
- “1 + 4”: Prospective students make application to the dual degree program when they apply to the DVM program. Students successfully admitted to the DVM/MBA curriculum would be guaranteed admission to the DVM class the year following their admission. The first year of matriculation would be spent completing the MBA portion of the curriculum. Students will affirm during the spring semester of their MBA curriculum their intent to commence the DVM degree in the following fall semester. Assuming successful completion of MBA degree requirements, the MBA degree will be conferred with the DVM degree.
- “2 + 1 + 2”: Students wishing to enter the DVM/MBA curriculum after their matriculation in the DVM program will be allowed one year’s leave of absence following the 2nd DVM year to complete MBA coursework. The year’s leave will begin with the end of the spring semester and finish at the end of the summer prior to re-entry into the DVM curriculum. Assuming successful completion of MBA degree requirements, the MBA degree will be conferred with the DVM degree.
- “4 + 1”: Students may enter the MBA track after completing the DVM degree. MBA coursework could begin during the summer following DVM graduation if courses are available or if the Internship option is chosen. The MBA degree will be conferred following successful completion of MBA degree requirements.
CORE CURRICULUM
The schedule below describes courses available at the Stillwater and Tulsa campuses.
ACCT 5183. Financial Accounting (3) Development of the ability to read and to analyze financial statements and to use this information along with other types of information in decision-making.
FIN 5013. Business Finance (3) An introduction to the major areas of business finance: the financial environment in which business decisions are made and the institutions found therein, the financial management practices of a firm securing financing and allocating resources among competing alternatives, and the valuation of financial assets available to the firm and individuals.
LSB 5163. Legal Issues (3) Legal environment within which business must operate. Nature and source of law, the operation of the judicial system, the operation of administrative agencies, selected Constitutional provisions frequently involved in litigation of business problems, and selected substantive legal areas having a direct relationship with business operation and decision-making.
MGMT 5113. Management & Organizational Theory (3) Contemporary theories of organization. Structure and dynamics of organizational goals and environment.
MSIS 5623. Information & Network Technology Management (3) Design and use of management information systems in businesses and other organizations. Model building, information resource management and decision support systems.
ACCT 5283. Managerial Accounting (3) Interpretation of accounting data in planning, controlling and decision-making.
FIN 5053. Financial Management (3) Concepts and theories applicable to the financial administration of a firm. Cases, problems, and readings to illustrate various problems and techniques of solution.
MBA 5303. Corporate Strategy (3) Key issues in formulation and implementing business and corporate strategies. The orientation of top management, diagnosis of what is critical in complex business situations and realistic solutions to strategic and organizational problems.
MKTG 5133. Marketing Management (3) Consideration at an advanced level of the major elements of marketing from the point of view of the marketing executive. Emphasis on problem solving and decision-making, using an interdisciplinary approach. Development of an integrated, comprehensive marketing strategy.
ECON 5113. Managerial Economics (3) Economic theory applied to business decision making. Concepts of microeconomics and macroeconomics related to understanding the economic system, analysis of policy, forecasting, and international economics.
The remaining six hours will consist of an internship performed offsite, or business elective coursework determined in consultation with the academic advisor.
