Q) Why did you decide to require purchase of a laptop/notebook computer? A) After much deliberation and evaluation it was determined that a requirement for purchase of a personal computer was in the best interest of the educational objectives for the DVM program.
Q) Do I have to purchase a tablet-style laptop and/or does it have to be a Dell? A) There is no requirement to purchase a tablet-style laptop nor a Dell branded computer. You may purchase whatever computer you choose within the $2,100 authorized by OSU Financial Aid and with the minimum system requirements. See What Kind of Computer Do I Need to Buy?
Q) Do I have to pay for the Computer up-front? A) Yes, you will need to arrange for payment for the computer at time of purchase.
Q) How can I obtain Microsoft Office? A) As a student at OSU you are covered under the Microsoft Campus Agreement and that agreement provides for you do download Microsoft Office Professional. Other agreements are in place to provide End Note (a reference manager) and Microsoft operating systems. To download these programs, visit the Software Distribution Center. Q) Should I set an administrator password? A) Yes, you should and it needs to be a complex password of a least seven characters in length with upper and lower case letters numbers and symbols. If you do not use complex passwords your machine will get hacked very quickly on the OSU network.
