Treatment options for endometrial (uterine) cysts have included electrocoagulation, direct puncture by biopsy forceps, manual rupture, and various intrauterine infusions with saline, hypertonic saline, and magnesium sulfate.
Cysts often have either failed to be removed by these attempts, or when successfully resolved, have returned in one or two cycles. Electrocautery for cyst removal has also been used via hysteroscopy. Cyst ablation by hysteroscopic Neodymium:ytrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser irradiation has been performed in our Hospital for many years in collaboration with the Sarkey’s Surgical Laser Laboratory, College of Veterinary Medicine, Oklahoma State University (OSU). We offer this as an approach to correction of uterine cysts in the mare.
