Student participants are selected from applicants in the pre-clinical years of the DVM program based on academic performance and a 1-page essay by the applicants describing why they want to participate in the program and what they hope to gain from it. Students from any veterinary school may apply; applications from veterinary schools outside the U. S. are specifically encouraged. Selected students are then matched with a faculty research mentor based on a combination of their expressed research interest and agreement of faculty (both based on prior discussions between students and prospective mentors). At least 10 and as many as 20 students (pending available funding) may be selected each summer.
