(February 5, 2009 Stillwater, OK) – Several OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences alumni were recently honored at the OVMA Annual Convention & Expo held in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Dr. Becky Brewer-Walker (1984) received the 2009 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions and service to veterinary medicine. Walker serves as Oklahoma State Veterinarian.

Other alumni awards include:

• Oklahoma Veterinarian of the Year – Dr. John Kirkpatrick (1965)
• Companion Animal Practitioner of the Year – Dr. Rosemarie Strong (1989)
• Food Animal Practitioner of the Year – Dr. Michael Tripp (1982)
• President’s Award – Dr. Billy Clay (1970)
• Young Veterinarian of the Year – Dr. Bret White (2005)

More than 100 alumni, faculty, staff and guests visited the veterinary center’s exhibit booth. Alumni were encouraged to register for door prize drawings. The following alumni won:

• Dr. Laurin Patton (1964)
• Dr. Paige Randell (1996)
• Dr. Elaine Ross (1987)

The Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences is one of 28 veterinary colleges in the United States and is fully accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The center’s Boren Veterinary Medial Teaching Hospital is open to the public and provides routine and specialized care for small and large animals.
