Veterinary Student Receives Award PDF Print E-mail

STILLWATER, Okla.—Levi Dykes, a fourth year veterinary student at OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, received the Above and Beyond Award for the fall 2008 semester from the Center’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Dykes is the son of Lucille and James Dykes of Helena, Okla.

Dykes was recognized for his organizational skills and his helpfulness. He demonstrates a constant desire to learn, and has an excellent work ethic. He often works after hours caring for his patients even when he is not on call. One weekend he performed radiographs and helped with a CT scan on a white tailed deer buck, and assisted in the surgery involving the spine. He exhibited excellent clinical skills and took intensive care of the buck after the surgery according to Dr. Lionel Dawson, associate professor in large animal medicine and surgery.

The Above and Beyond Award was established by grateful clients to recognize behavior that exceeds what would normally be expected from fourth year veterinary students. Four awards are given annually. Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty, administration and support staff at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital nominate potential recipients.

The Oklahoma State Center for Veterinary Health Sciences is one of 28 veterinary colleges in the United States and is fully accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association. For more information, visit http://www.cvhs.okstate.edu.
