| Mead Receives Above and Beyond Award |

Renee Mead, 4th year veterinary student, recently received the Spring 2008 Above and Beyond Award. Mead was recognized for taking extra steps to ensure the comfort of a surgery patient and its owners.
When a client’s dog was in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for surgery, Mead let the dog’s owners come back twice the night of his surgery to feed and walk him. According to the owners, this lowered the dog’s stress level as well as their own. The Above and Beyond Award was established in 2006 by grateful clients to recognize 4th year veterinary students who go beyond the normal expectations of a student. These students receive their veterinary clinical training during their final year of the veterinary program as each hospital case is assigned a student. The students interact with the owners and strengthen not only their clinical training but their communication skills as well. Mead was also the recipient of the American Association of Feline Practitioners Award for her dedication to feline medicine and surgery. Mead is the daughter of Teresa Palmer of Lansing, Kan., and Roger Fuller of Claycomo, Mo. |
