|Another Veterinarian in the Family - Dr. Amy Royse Graduates from Oklahoma State University|
One year ago, she watched her husband, Ryan Royse, receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Now it’s her turn. Amy Royse is one of 76 veterinary students in the Class of 2008. Ryan hooded her during the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Hooding Ceremony on May 3, 2008.
“I am very honored that he has a chance to do this,” explains Amy. “It just makes it more special to have him there.”
Amy says it was both good and bad to be studying veterinary medicine at the same time.
“We hardly ever saw each other,” she recalls. “But it was nice when Ryan could explain something to me in another way so I could better understand it. Being in veterinary medicine together gives us a special bond and a common area to be excited about in our lives. We always have interesting cases to talk about!”
Dr. Royse is completing a one year internship in equine internal medicine following his graduation in 2007.
“I’m very proud of what Ryan has accomplished so far,” adds Amy.
Amy hopes to focus on equine internal medicine and lameness. Now that she is graduating, the couple is looking for work in an equine private practice although Ryan is considering doing a residency in equine surgery.
“It’s difficult to find two equine positions in the same vicinity,” says Amy. “I’m really excited about the future that’s out there. Even though we’re not sure what exactly that will be.
