(December 19, 2008 Stillwater, OK) – Dr. Kenneth Bartels is a professor in the Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department at Oklahoma State University’s (OSU) Center for Veterinary Health Sciences and Director of the Biomedical Laser Laboratory. He holds the McCasland Foundation Laser Surgery Professorship. Recently Bartels was appointed to the Kerr Foundation Chair, which provides extended support for the veterinary center’s Laser Lab.
Bartels' fields of interest include lasers in veterinary surgery, laser/tissue interactions and comparative medicine and surgery. He has published more than 75 articles, written seven book chapters and one book involving surgery and the use of lasers in both humans and animals.
Bartels earned his DVM degree from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and a MS degree in veterinary surgery from Colorado State University. He served two years on active duty in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps and spent 27 years in the Army Reserve before retiring recently as a Colonel and Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Veterinary Command.
The Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences is one of 28 veterinary colleges in the United States and is fully accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The center’s Boren Veterinary Medial Teaching Hospital is open to the public and provides routine and specialized care for small and large animals.
