Proper dental care is as important for pets as it is for humans. Left untreated in animals, periodontal disease can cause bad breath and major teeth problems that can be costly to treat. Prevention is the key to keep a pet’s mouth clean and bright.
Here are some tips to help keep your pet’s smile bright and breath fresh:
• Clean your pet’s teeth regularly; a home dental care regime is important
• Remove plaque (food, saliva and bacteria) that forms on teeth, which can cause
periodontal disease resulting in mouth odor
• Prevent tartar, which is harden plaque
• Schedule a yearly oral exam by your veterinarian for your pet(s)
Your veterinarian will check for tartar buildup, teeth abnormalities, tumors and infection. Redness and swelling around the gums could indicate periodontal disease. If found in the early stages, this disease can be treated.
