Dr. Todd Holbrook, Equine Section Chief at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, is one of two veterinarians selected to provide veterinary assistance for the United States team in the 2008 World Endurance Championship competition.
The event will be held in Terengganu, Malaysia, Nov. 6-9, 2008. As many as 36 different countries will compete in this timed test of a horse/rider team to traverse a marked, measured cross country “trail” over natural terrain covering a distance of 100 miles in one day. Last year Dr. Holbrook served as the team veterinarian for the USA and assisted one rider for Japan in the test event over the same endurance course in Malaysia. Of the four USA team horses competing last year, three completed the race finishing in 5th, 6th and 26th place. This year, the USA will send a full team of six horses/riders to Malaysia approximately three weeks prior to the competition. Those interested can view images and read about the experience on daily blogs covering the team, from arrival through the competition, via links at http://www.endurance.net/index.html.
