Veterinary Center assists Kosovo Veterinary School

Jennifer Moreno, 2nd year veterinary student at OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, is spearheading a book donation project to assist veterinary students half-way around the world.

“Because travel in and out of Kosovo is limited due to political unrest, students studying veterinary medicine are not able to travel to foreign veterinary schools,” explains Moreno. “So they are starting their own veterinary school and they need more up-to-date books from which to learn.”

Moreno has collected more than 30 boxes of veterinary books from faculty, the library and various companies. And she has received donations to help pay for the costs of shipping the materials abroad. Novartis, Purina, DermaPet, and Hills are among the pharmaceutical companies and pet food product suppliers that have contributed.

“The region is struggling to decreases the number of mastitis cases and they need modern veterinary medicine knowledge to fight today’s parasites,” says Moreno. “If they can improve animal health, they will ultimately improve public health. These books may help them get one step closer to their goal of positively impacting human and animal life.”
