(May 19, 2010   Stillwater, OK) – The Oklahoma State University (OSU) Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently held its Annual Awards Banquet.  Among those honored was the recipient of the Stratton Staff Award.

Kathy Phillips of Stillwater came to OSU’s veterinary center in November 1981.  During her 29 years, she has seen two reorganizations of the basic science departments; she has served five Department Heads, and witnessed four Dean changes.

“Through all of those chaotic times, the departments’ staff worked together and made it happen,” smiles Phillips.

It is that ability to get the job done that won her the 2010 Stratton Staff Award.  Named after Dr. Louie Stratton, the award recognizes outstanding staff members for their dedication, service and contributions.

Phillips is currently an Administrative Support Specialist II in the Department of Physiological Sciences.  She is described by her colleagues as “the glue that holds our department together.  She serves as a resource for faculty, postdoctoral candidates, and graduate students.  If you want to know information about how the department, College and University operate, Kathy is your person.”

Her responsibilities include the usual interaction with Human Resources, personnel paperwork, travel arrangements, meeting/event planning details, budget preparation and tracking and too many more tasks to list.  She is known for meeting deadlines, her dedication to the job, conducting herself in a professional, congenial manner and for giving the veterinary center her best.

“I was surprised to receive this award.  I have been fortunate to have been nominated several times but I never expected to win.”
