OSU Veterinary Center Announces Intern/Residency Matches

(March 17, 2009 Stillwater, OK) – The Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently announced the senior veterinary students and recent graduates that were matched by the Veterinary Internship Residency Matching Program (VIRMP).

“To have this many of our seniors and/or recent graduates matched is wonderful,” says Dr. Charles MacAllister, Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department head at OSU’s veterinary center. “It speaks volumes to the education and skill level these veterinarians have achieved. Our faculty does an excellent job of preparing our graduates. OSU prides itself in graduating competent, confident, practice-ready veterinarians.”

VIRMP is sponsored by the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians. Using a computerized system, senior students and recent veterinary graduates complete the application requirements for positions they are interested in. Because it is highly competitive, applicants are advised to apply to more than one institution. Institutions then rank the applicants through its selection process. A central computer facility then matches prospective interns and residents with the various hospital programs. All information remains confidential until the matches are announced.

The Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences is one of 28 veterinary colleges in the United States and is fully accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The center’s Boren Veterinary Medial Teaching Hospital is open to the public and provides routine and specialized care for small and large animals.
