(September 23, 2009 Stillwater, OK) – The Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences will hold its first Lundberg-Kienlen Lectureship in Biomedical Research on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. in McElroy Hall Auditorium.

The lecture will feature Kenneth B. Adler, Ph.D., who will present “From Bench to Bedside: Development of a Drug to Treat Lung Disease from a Basic Research Start.” Adler is a professor in the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Adler is internationally recognized as an expert in the field of respiratory airway inflammation. His research focuses on signal transduction pathways leading to synthesis and secretion of mucus. He has received several national awards including a Method to Extend Research In Time (MERIT) Award from the National Institutes of Health, the Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishments from the American Thoracic Society, an Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association, the Oliver Max Garner Award for Service to Humanity and the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence. Adler is also the Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Respiratory Cell & Molecular Biology and a member of editorial boards of eight other scientific journals.

Hosted by Lin Liu, Ph.D., the lecture is supported by the Lundberg-Kienlen endowment, the veterinary center’s Office of Research and Department of Physiological Sciences. Liu is a Regents professor in the center’s Department of Physiological Sciences and holds the Lundberg-Kienlen Professorship in Biomedical Research.

“We are excited to bring Dr. Adler to OSU,” says Liu. “The lecture is open to the public and we invite others interested in biomedical research to join us. Our aim is to make this an annual event hosting a variety of expert presenters.”

The Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences is one of 28 veterinary colleges in the United States and is fully accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
