The Center for Veterinary Health Sciences (CVHS) at Oklahoma State University is comprised of the Boren Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (BVMTH), the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL) and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).  The CVM consists of three academic departments; Veterinary Pathobiology and Physiological Sciences, housed in McElroy Hall, and Veterinary Clinical Sciences, house in the BVMTH. 

 

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences has approximately 35 faculty and 23 house officers who provide surgical and medical care for an annual case load of approximately 11,000 -12,000 clinical cases/year. The Boren Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (BVMTH) is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24 hour/day care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. Major equipment includes a cardiac catheterization lab, nuclear medicine facilities, I-131 treatment, four slice helical CT scanner (can do equine), GE 1.5T MRI (small animal only), GE Vivid echocardiography machine, two hydraulic food animal chutes, C-arm for use in small animal and equine surgery rooms, thirty-two stall equine barn, twenty eight stall food animal barn, laser surgery program, and separate avian/exotics/wildlife ward. 

 

Departmental faculty also maintain service and research programs at a 600-acre equine ranch, an equine research park, a bovine research facility, a biomedical laser surgery research laboratory, the Willard Sparks Beef Research Center, and a sports medicine laboratory. A Shelter Medicine program collaborates with shelters in Stillwater, Tulsa and Oklahoma City to provide medicine and surgical services and giving student valuable surgical experience.

 

The College of Veterinary Medicine has approximately 92 students enrolled in each of the 4 years of the DVM degree program and participates in the clinical training of students from Ross University, St. Georges University and St. Matthews University, as well as in the certification of PAVE/ECFVG candidates.
