|The Application Process|
Once you have completed an application to become part of Pete’s Pet Posse, a volunteer coordinator will be in contact with you to schedule the physical exam and disposition evaluation. You will be asked to schedule an appointment for your animal with Dr. Lara Sypniewski at the OSU Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for a physical exam, and on the same day, a disposition evaluation with Lynne Bennett. There is a $50 application fee that covers the two exams. It is the responsibility of the department and owner to agree upon the payment prior to any appointment. Payment is due when services are rendered.
If you already have an animal that is certified as a therapy animal, the same process still applies. All animals must receive a physical exam by the OSU Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and a trainer must evaluate the animal’s disposition. In addition, all animals will be required to be certified through HALO.
The veterinarian and the trainer will provide information to the OSU Pet Therapy Advisory Board. It is the role of the OSU Pet Therapy Advisory Board to accept pets into the program. The board meets quarterly. However, it is possible that in the pilot stage of the program, the board may meet more frequently.
