March is Equine Wellness Month. Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences joins the American Association of Equine Practitioners and Bayer Healthcare in recommending that all horse owners use the following information to help keep their horses healthy.
Appropriate vaccinations are the most cost-effective weapon against common infectious diseases of the horse. Vaccines can help fight off some familiar problems: tetanus (lockjaw), encephalomyelitis (sleeping sickness), rabies, West Nile virus, rhinopneumonitis, influenza, strangles, botulism (shaker foal syndrome), equine viral arteritis (EVA), and Potomac Horse Fever.

“Common Causes of Blindness in Dogs and Cats” will be the topic of OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences Pet Care Seminar on Tuesday, April 2. The seminar will begin at 7 p.m. in the McElroy Hall Auditorium located on the OSU Stillwater campus at the corner of West Farm Road and McFarland.
Margi Gilmour, DVM, diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, will discuss some of the common diseases that cause blindness in dogs and cats. Dr. Gilmour will also share clinical signs owners can be aware of for early detection, treatment options, and more.

(Stillwater, Okla., February 28, 2013) – Heather Rhoden of Bradshaw, Neb., received the 2013 Western Veterinary Conference Dr. Jack Walther Leadership Award for Oklahoma State University. Rhoden is a third year veterinary student at Oklahoma State’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. She has a MS degree in Parasitology and serves as president of both the student American Association of Veterinary Parasitology and the student Zoo, Exotic and Wildlife Club.

(Stillwater, Okla., February 7, 2013) – On January 31, 2013, children and adults gathered in McElroy Hall at the Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences to meet Rossi and her owner, author Judy Savage. Savage was personalizing signed copies of her book, "Rossi the Approval Poodle", which focuses on five rules for living a happier and healthier life.
