The mission of the Veterinary Medicine Teaching Resource Center (VMTRC) is to provide teaching, research and service opportunities in food animal production medicine benefiting the citizens of California and the

world. The goal of the teaching portion of this mission at the VMTRC is to instruct veterinary students in the principles and practices of production medicine with special emphasis on Dairy Production Medicine.


This Dairy Medicine Clinician will be responsible for teaching veterinary students, graduate students involved in clinical programs, and residents in the production environment and occasionally in the

classroom. The Dairy Medicine Clinician will be responsible for developing and maintaining dairy herd production medicine client relationships that provide opportunities for teaching of veterinary students, professional graduate students, graduate clinical, and graduate academic students; providing service for the clientele; and providing research quality herd data for clinical and epidemiological research. The Dairy Medicine Clinician will work with discipline-based faculty at the VMTRC in providing services to dairy clients. As part of the production medicine team the Dairy Medicine Clinician will provide continuous high quality comprehensive services to clients, students, and researchers without interruption due to conflicting academic or other obligations. The Dairy Medicine Clinician will provide worker training

courses to local dairy personnel related to quality, residue avoidance, food safety and public health, milking parlor procedures and calving. The Dairy Medicine Clinician will work within clinical core herds with

VMTRC faculty members representing various academic disciplines and production segments to provide interfaces between experts, clients and students and to facilitate interaction among VMTRC and outside experts.


The Dairy Medicine Clinician will be expected to expand clinical expertise in the area of dairy production, e.g., udder health, nutrition, calf management, or reproduction. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in applying quantitative skills in the analysis of health as it relates to production inefficiencies; demonstrated skill to conduct clinical research and to participate in interdisciplinary research trials in clinical core herds. The Dairy Medicine Clinician will be encouraged to serve as principal or co-author on scientific publications resulting from collaborative research activities; for providing consultative services to non-Core Herd referral clients in the Tulare area on a limited basis (not to exceed

20% of effort) and in compliance with VMTH policy on the private practice of veterinary medicine; for participating in providing continuing education for veterinarians, other industry professionals and

producers (not to exceed 10% of effort) and for participating in planning and development of VMTRC missions and programs.






 

Qualifications A DVM is required. 3 years or more of dairy
production medicine experience required. Must have a current California license or must be able to obtain the license within 2 years of successful hire. Demonstrated teaching experience is required. Demonstrated advanced training and/or experience in areas such as MPVM or nutrition, quantitative epidemiological programs, animal welfare, calf management and an MBA are preferred. Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred. Experience implementing Quality Assurance and Worker training programs preferred. Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of individuals, including students, livestock producers, university staff, individuals from other university units, and state and federal agencies. Demonstrated ability to work with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, Word, email software, and other software systems, good computer skills.

*Special Conditions of Employment:* Availability to work On-Call. This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity check. Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. This
position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. Non smoking work environment. Overnight Travel required.
Schedule is subject to change with only 12-24 hours notification. Valid CA driver’s license required. Work flexible schedule. Work hours outside
standard 8AM-5PM schedule. Work occasional evenings/nights. Work occasional varied lunch hours. Work occasional weekends and holidays.

Compensation $5,275.00 - $9,491.67/Mo.
