Clinical Assistant/Clinical Associate Professor -Equine Field Service. The Virginia- Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM), Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, Blacksburg, V A, invites applications from qualified individuals for a full- time, calendar year, clinical track faculty position in the Equine Field Service. The position will be offered for one to three years in the first instance.

Instructional duties will include participation in clinical and didactic courses offered to professional students, interns and residents of the VMRCVM. It is expected the successful applicant will expend approximately 80% of her/his effort in clinical service/instruction with remaining effort allocated to in didactic instruction, governance activities, scholarship and professional development.

The VMRCVM has three campuses: Blacksburg, VA -Main campus at Virginia Tech; Leesburg, VA -Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center; College Park, MD -University of Maryland. This position is based entirely at the Blacksburg Campus. Blacksburg is a friendly University Community in southwest Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains, less than 20 miles from the Appalachian Trail and National Forest. Qualifications Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent degree and ideally will have demonstrated experience in equine practice. Diplomate status in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (or other relevant A V MA specialty) is preferred; however, board eligible candidates or individuals desirous of becoming board certified will be considered. The ideal candidate is likely to have leadership/management experience in an equine practice setting. The position is service oriented and will include management of patients and clients in the Equine Field Service section of the VMRCVM. This will include an emphasis on preventive health care and routine medical, surgical and dental procedures on horses. Positive interaction with local practitioners and referring veterinarians will be essential as will close interaction with the other service based sections of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital e.g., Large Animal Medicine and Surgery, Diagnostic Services. Participation in provision of emergency duty on a shared, rotational basis is expected. The successful applicant will also contribute to the management and continued development of the Equine Field Service. This will include, if and where appropriate, participation in faculty governance activities and contribution to the VMRCVM outreach programs.
Compensation Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
