| Job Description | This is a 12.5-month internship in Food Animal Ambulatory and Production Medicine. The program will begin on Monday June 15, 2009 with completion expected by June 30, 2010. The salary for this position is $27,000.Interns are actively involved in the diagnosis and management of clinical problems in individual animals and herds/flocks. Interns will assist in instruction of senior students, will participate in daily rounds, and will present a case at intern/resident rounds.Interns will be scheduled on emergency duty with a faculty member. Primary case responsibility will be determined by clinical progress as evaluated by clinicians. Interns are required to submit one manuscript for publication in a refereed journal before the year is completed. Interns are required to purchase their own health insurance. Ten days are allowed for annual leave. A certificate of internship is awarded for satisfactory completion of the program. The Food Animal caseload is approximately 36,000 animals per year. The majority of cases are dairy and beef cattle and the minority of cases are sheep, pigs, goats, and poultry. The service is equipped with five ambulatory trucks. The service also offers in-hospital primary care for 80-100 food animals per year and provides referrals to veterinarians in Virginia and Maryland for herd problems.
