Job Description

MedVet, The largest private veterinary specialty and emergency hospital in the Midwest, is seeking 2 applicants for residency positions in small animal surgery.

The Facility: Our 57,000 square foot facility, completely renovated in 2002, is located in picturesque Worthington, a suburb of Columbus.  The hospital is a well-designed medical facility with generous space for offices, large and small conference rooms, and future growth.  The MedVet surgery practice, with four state-of-the-art operating rooms and views of the campus, includes four residency-trained surgeons (three ACVS board-certified), four surgery residents, and a superb group of surgical technicians.  A fulltime board-certified anesthesiologist lends her expertise to every case.  The IDEXX Diagnostics Laboratory is headquartered in our facility, providing MedVet specialists with immediate access to one of the best diagnostic laboratories in the country.  New to MedVet is the Cancer Center for Pets; the centerpiece of our medical, radiation and surgical oncology programs.

The Position: The residency is a 3-year program designed to meet the specifications of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.  The successful applicants must have graduated from an accredited veterinary college and completed an internship in small animal surgery and medicine or have equivalent experience.  MedVet’s extensive caseload allows our residents to typically complete their ACVS requirements for surgeries within their first year.  The training program supports publication, critical though process development and preparation for board-certification examinations.  Our program successfully graduates individuals who are not only proficient, skilled surgeons but who also pass their ACVS board-certification examination.  The successful candidate must feel comfortable being a strong member of a close-knit team, have a good work ethic and be self-motivated.

Our Team of Doctors and Staff:  We currently employ 48 veterinarians (20 of whom are board-certified specialists or residency trained) who enjoy an excellent working relationship.  The technical staff is the best available including dedicated anesthesia technicians.  Our management and administrative team are strong and work tirelessly to support our mission.  We are justifiably proud of our people and their dedication.

MedVet’s Referral Base:  We are the largest referral center in the Midwest, serving 2,500 veterinarians and 1,100 veterinary hospitals extending from Central Ohio to Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Michigan and Pennsylvania.  We see 55,000 patients per year between the specialty and emergency practices.

This unique and exciting opportunity for the right individual.  If you are interested in this position and want to learn more, please E-mail a cover letter and CV with references to mbarnhart@medvetohio.com.  Selected applicants will be required to interview on-site.
