Veterinary Residency Training Program in Zoological MedicineThe Kansas City Zoo, in conjunction with the MU College of Veterinary Medicine and in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation is offering an ACZM-approved postgraduate residency program designed to produce specialists in the field of zoological medicine. The program begins in June 2010, and will run for 3 years. Reappointment for the second and third year is contingent upon the successful completion of the preceding year. The resident will work with the zoo's ACZM boarded veterinarian; animal health and curatorial staff, veterinary preceptors, RVT interns, dental hygiene interns, and specialists in veterinary surgery, ophthalmology, radiology, medical obstetrical care, internal medicine, neurology, and dentistry.The Animal Health Center is a fully equipped 13,000 sq ft facility including quarantine, necropsy, surgery, laboratory, radiology, office, and treatment room facilities. The resident will be based at the Kansas City Zoo, but will have the opportunity to work with the Missouri Department of Conservation field researchers and biologists and the faculty at the MU College of Veterinary Medicine. Qualifications for the program include a DVM degree from an AVMA-accredited institution, a minimum of 1 year clinical experience or internship in veterinary practice including zoo, mixed animal, or small animal practice by the start of the program. Applicants should be prepared to prove eligibility to be employed in this position in accordance with all applicable laws.
