Faculty Anesthesiologist



The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine announces a search to fill a faculty position in anesthesia at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will share service, teaching and emergency responsibilities with two other faculty anesthesiologists. The tenure track position will provide the opportunity to develop collaborative research programs in the discipline of anesthesiology with others throughout the Department, College and University.



Responsibilities:


· Teaching responsibilities will include participation in didactic instruction in anesthesiology and related disciplines, supervise students in anesthesia and surgery labs, provide clinical instruction of professional students in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and provide anesthesia training of interns, residents and graduate students from various disciplines.


· In the future, the clinical anesthesiology service may start a residency training program and the successful candidate would share responsibilities associated with resident training.


· Service responsibilities will include the direction of the clinical anesthesiology service (both large and small) 24-26 weeks per year (tenure track) or 30-36 weeks (clinical track), consultants in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, participation in continuing education programs of the College and participation in faculty governance activities.


· Service responsibilities will also include participation in emergency services. This responsibility will be shared with two other faculty anesthesiologists who are Diplomates of the ACVA.


· The applicant must be committed to excellent patient management, client service, and clinical teaching.


· Research responsibilities (tenure track) will include both independent and collaborative or translational research. The successful candidate will develop an area of expertise that will result in documented scholarly achievements.



Qualifications:


· Qualifications include the DVM or equivalent degree and specialty training in veterinary anesthesiology. Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiology is preferred. However, candidates eligible to sit for the certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiology will be considered. Research training and an advanced degree are preferred.



Salary:


· Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.



Starting Date:


· The starting date is negotiable with the position available after November 1, 2010.
