Job Description


Feedlot Health Management Services Ltd. (FHMS) provides comprehensive animal health, feedlot production, feeds and feeding, and individual animal management consulting services to commercial feedlots throughout Canada and the USA. In addition, FHMS provides its feedlot clients with a proprietary individual animal data collection system and maintains an active applied feedlot research program. The FHMS Veterinary and Production Consultant Team is currently comprised of 16 professionals with advanced training/recognized expertise in feedlot animal health and welfare, feedlot production, epidemiology, meat science, nutrition, pathology, applied research, statistical analysis, and economic modeling. The professional consultants work together with a 25-30 member support team to provide value-based services to FHMS client feedlots.


Professional Services Veterinarians at FHMS are responsible for providing animal health management and more traditional veterinary services to client feedlots while portraying a professional and positive image on behalf of the organization. As deemed appropriate by the Managing Partners, a Professional Services Veterinarian may become involved in pertinent research projects conducted by FHMS.




Primary Responsibilities:



Feedlot Cattle Veterinary Services:



Diagnose causes of death in feedlot cattle (in person and via digital images), Perform selected bovine surgeries, Conduct both individual animal and pen level examinations (in person or via digital imaging), Perform regulatory procedures associated with cattle export or certificationCommunicate protocols, research findings, recommendations, technical information, etc. to client feedlots, Coordinate and oversee the training of feedlot workers, Perform other veterinary procedures as required





Feedlot Cattle Health Management:



Utilize the proprietary data collection software (individual animal based) to monitor health and production parameters and provide appropriate oversight and consultation to clients, Identify areas of concern that require actions or solutions and devise action plans and recommendations in conjunction with the entire Professional Services Team, Review, discuss, and provide constructive input regarding animal health and production procedures and protocols, Perform feedlot site visits as required to maintain positive communications and observe animal




Qualifications Requirements:
o Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school
o Qualification for licensure with the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association
