Job Description

Friendship Hospital for Animals is a veterinary hospital located in Washington, D.C., dedicated to comprehensive health care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.   In addition to primary veterinary care, we offer mobile services as well as advanced veterinary services, including surgical specialists, Emergency Center, internal medicine,  hospitalization and critical, oncology and dentistry. We are currently looking to fill five positions in our Internship Program, beginning in June 2013.

Our full-service, in-house laboratory provides test results for many area veterinary facilities; the hospital is also equipped with digital radiology and high-tech surgery and dentistry suites. In addition to its cutting edge facilities, Friendship is a leader in veterinary information technology and progressive veterinary business management techniques. All records are maintained electronically using an easy to master program. Friendship is dedicated to client service and nurturing client communication - skills that are vital for a successful veterinarian to master.

Interns rotate through hospitalized case management, general surgery and dentistry, emergency, primary care, and specialty services. Specialty service rotations are spent training with our in-house boarded surgeon, criticalists, and internists, and each of our consulting specialists in oncology and neurology. The internship is distinguished by the relative autonomy and concurrent level of responsibility afforded interns. After a three week period of orientation and training, interns are responsible for the in hospital and out of hospital care of their patients. The autonomy is balanced by continual guidance and support from our large network of specialists and primary care veterinarians, all of whom are enthusiastic about and experienced in the process of intern education

We also encourage interns to attend local CE seminars when possible. Within the hospital, further educational opportunities include bi-weekly rounds in surgery, dentistry, primary care, and critical care. In addition, there are weekly intern rounds consisting of journal club, morbidity/mortality rounds, and topic rounds presented by interns, specialists, and staff doctors.

The Friendship vision revolves around respect for animals, owners, and fellow team members. The successful candidate will share this philosophy and commit to the Friendship vision.

Benefits include health and liability insurance, AVMA dues, VIN account, discounted gym membership, and five personal/vacation days. In addition to salary, interns receive a $6.00 stipend for each urgent care case seen.
